whatever meat you can find close at hand.
Meat??
What manner of sissy Haggis do you eat?
We use Heart, Lungs and Liver.
That's still considered a "meat". Same way that hard-candy can be called a "sweet meat" and cow's brain is called "sweet bread". Ewww...
While I'm sure it's just as tasty, sweetbreads are not usually brains. It's traditionally made with young pancreas. There is another part sometimes used, but I don't remember which right now. Yummy! |

The GeoHighland Games are only about a week away. That is right all the ammo can throwing and microcaber tossing action that you can handle. Spread the word - gather the clan and wear you best tartans. The Kin9 is waiting... |

Haggis is on order....
I have been asked by last years contestants to tell you to read the recipe on the Jello box, follow the directions on the box and use a measuring cup for accurate measuring.
I am not saying that last year's Haggis was a little gritty, but rolling it in the sand was an improvement. |

Actually due to the formation of the mold and the desire to achieve an appropriate color match for realisim different flavors were combined to produce the haggis. (see below)
Ingredients:
1.
Three large, 6 ounce boxes of peach or watermelon flavored gelatin. (Using any other flavored gelatin will not result in a flesh toned appearance.)
2.
One 12 ounce can of lite evaporated skimmed milk (99.5% fat free). No other milk will work!
3.
Oil Cooking Spray (to lubricate the plastic mold)
4.
Two teaspoons of vegetable oil (to lubricate the plastic mold)
5.
Green Food Coloring
6.
Three ½ cups of water(2 ½ cups boiled, 1 cup cold)
Perhaps the grittyness came from the actual calcium deposits I inserted into the brain mold to acheive a more realistic texture??? |
